Having Eyes to See and Ears to Hear

Throughout Scripture there are references to the people of God not having the eyes to see and ears to hear (Ezekiel 3:27).  It is a way of saying that the people lack understanding of what God is doing and saying.  Coupled with that expression, the Messiah frequently concludes His exhortation to the last generation with the expression, “he who has an ear to hear let him hear”  (Matthew 11:15, Matthew 13:43, Mark 4:9, Mark 7:16, Luke 8:8, Luke 14:35, Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, Revelation 13:9).

Whenever I see these expressions in Scripture I feel motivated to understand what God is saying, but it also helps me to understand why others don’t seem to understand.  God has blocked some from understanding because they are not motivated toward God.  They cannot understand because they cannot communicate with God at that level.  Let me illustrate what I am saying using the technology of my past.

I have lived long enough to see significant technology changes for how people communicate with each other.  As a boy, AT&T (American Telephone & Telegraph) and Western Union were the communications giants of our day.  Telegraph was the predominant method.  If you received a telegram, it was the highlight of your day and everyone around you.  It was serious messaging.  Telegrams were read at weddings from well-wishers and Western Union was serious business for sending and receiving money.  Telephones began to overtake the telegram. Public pay telephones were on street corners.  You needed a dime to make a call. You could receive a “long distance” call at no cost, but those made by you were limited to one or two a month as they could cost you a dollar or more per call.  Everyone dialed the number if they knew it, but you had to use an operator to call businesses.  The phone book was read more often than the Bible.  Everyone wanted their own telephone book and you always looked to find your number printed.  Then “push button” phones were introduced and the clickety-click of the rotary dial began to disappear.  Those were the days when the telephone company owned it all, i.e., the phone, the wiring, and the lines into your house.

If someone talked on the phone frequently we would joke about the “phone stuck in their ear.”  We would RUN to answer the phone (because the phone was in the house where you weren’t).

We were all instructed how to call the police and fire department with the first phrase being, “I want to report a fire at…” or “I want to report a robbery at…”  Most of the phones at home were on the wall and you stood to talk on the phone.  Desk phones were only on desks.  A “mobile phone” was a desk phone with a long cord that you dragged into the next room to talk privately.  Some people had “party lines” in the rural areas or in apartment buildings.  Snoopy neighbors would try to listen in on your conversations.  There were no message machines, so the custom was to let it ring ten times before hanging up.  If you missed a call, you had no idea who tried to call you.  Obscene phones calls were a problem.  All you could do was hang up and complain to the phone company and ask for an “unlisted number” in next year’s phone book.  Tracing a call to identify who was on the line was the height of intelligence gathering.  Only the FBI could do it while located at the telephone switching station.  When message machines finally came out, we would check for messages first thing when coming home.  Telephones were only audio devices.  A video phone was only on the wrist of Dick Tracy in the Sunday comics.

Now look at our phones today and what we are able to do with them.  AT&T is not the same company they were but the name still remains.  If you ask a young person what the acronym stands for they will most likely NOT know.

Using that imagery, many believers are stuck in the old phone system of communicating with God and understanding spiritual things.  They don’t get the call, they don’t get the message, and they avoid making “long distance” calls to Heaven.  They don’t even hear the phone ringing.  They don’t have an ear to hear.  They don’t even have a phone book.  When it comes to concepts in Scripture that use the expression “eyes to see and ears to hear,” they have little or no understanding.  They are limited to teachings of salvation in Jesus’ name, giving tithes, and weekly church meetings.  Their future is only “dying and going to heaven.”  It is the same “clickety-click” of a dial phone.

But a believer who has “eyes to see and ears to hear” has a spiritual cell phone.  They get every call, every voice message, every text message, and they know who called every time.  They even have a light in a dark place.

Allow me to elaborate.  Moses speaks directly to the final generation in his final discourse in the book of Deuteronomy.  He states that the last generation will be brought back from all the countries Israel had been scattered to.  They will be part of another exodus – a greater exodus.  The Prophets echo this same message.  The Messiah and the Apostles continue to prepare us for the last days and the sequence of prophesied events.  In particular, the Messiah speaks of the days leading to the Great Tribulation as the “beginning of sorrows” and cites specific prophecies for the final days and years.  There is a tremendous amount of evidence today that tracks exactly to the prophetic scenario.  It is like a collage of phone calls, text messages, voice messages, mixed with social media and YouTube.  It is all accessible to us if we have the slightest interest.  It is not for a lack of information, it is a question of seeing and hearing it (understanding).  …and then believing God’s promises to return and establish His kingdom.  Those with a spiritual cell phone get it.  They see and hear the message from Genesis to Revelation.  They understand the Law and the Messiah.  They understand redemption and restoration.  They seek out righteousness and desire that which is clean and holy.  They enjoy Sabbath and rejoice at the festivals.  Abraham is their father and they are grafted into Israel.  But more than that, they see and hear how it all speaks to this generation today.

Ask God to show you things that eyes don’t see and to hear things that ears don’t hear.  You will get a new phone, so to speak, with an unlimited voice and data plan.  He will also light your path and give you up-to-date navigation information for your life.

The beginning of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding. – Proverbs 4:7

Hal Porch Legal Defense Fund

Dear Fellow Messianic Brethren,

A member of our congregation and the husband of an employee at Lion and Lamb Ministries has just been charged with manslaughter.  This is as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred earlier in North Dakota.  Hal Porch was driving his semi-truck on the highway there and struck a very slow moving car driven by an elderly woman.  Despite Hal’s best effort to get her out of the vehicle, she died in the resulting crash and fire that consumed both vehicles.  After reviewing the accident report, the District Attorney has charged Hal with the crime.

I’m not going to review the other relevant facts concerning the accident.  Suffice it to say, we do not believe that Hal should have been charged with the crime of manslaughter.  But now, he is in a fight for his life.  If he does not vigorously fight this legally, he is facing prison and suffering great personal loss including his home, job, and future.

Hal is facing staggering legal bills to defend himself.  He must pay for a lawyer, travel to and from Oklahoma and North Dakota for the proceedings, witness depositions, and expert testimony.  To put it in simple terms – he is like you and me -- he doesn’t have the funds.

I want you to join me and other brothers here who know and love Hal to raise the funds to pay for his legal defense.  Therefore, I have established a Legal Defense Trust Fund to support Hal in face these costs.

The need for these funds is immediate.  He must pay a $10,000 retainer fee just to get a lawyer.  He may have to post bond, and then there is the immediate travel expense to North Dakota.  His employer is trying to help, but we need to stand tall with our Messianic brother to ensure his legal defense.

Please join me in making a donation to the “Legal Defense Trust Fund” as soon as you can.  Lion and Lamb Ministries will help collect these monies; however, you must designate the gift for the “Legal Defense Fund.” Donations to this trust fund are not tax deductible even though they are sent to Lion and Lamb Ministries for collection.

I thank you for your gift and help for our brother.  Your gift will also sustain our brother and prove to him that he is not alone.  Please be part of God’s grace in his life at this time.  To make a donation online please click here.

Thank you and please pray for Hal and Kimberly,

Monte Judah

The Love of Many Growing Cold

Yeshua said that just before the Great Tribulation there would be a difficult period for the world, called "the beginning of sorrows." This time period involves wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, and diseases in various places. This is the time when the rule of law is in namesake only with leaders and criminals doing as they wish. Without question, the days we live in satisfy the definition Yeshua gave. But He went further. He said that the love of many would grow cold.

Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. Matthew 24:12

What exactly does that mean? This expression of love growing cold speaks to basic human kindness and decency.

Last week, the media were all in a buzz about a number of celebrities whose private electronic data had been "hacked." Apparently, these women had private photos of themselves naked as well. These photos were then stolen and posted on a number of internet sites for viewing. How embarrassing!!

Before we jump on the victims and say that they should never have permitted naked photos of themselves to be taken, let us remember that the photos were stolen. Where is the decency in this event and how is it part of "the love of many shall grow cold?" There is certainly no decency or love on the part of those who stole the material. They are thieves and electronic "peeping Toms." And, there is no decency or love on the part of those who viewed or wanted to view the material after it was released. Their lusts are revealed, and they are as guilty as those who stole it. But, where is the person who loves his neighbor and "covers the naked?"

Is it not [righteousness] to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Isaiah 58:8

Yeshua was right about love growing cold. There is none noble here, and there is not enough love here to step in and offer a covering for the nakedness of others.

Let me share another event that just happened in Memphis, Tennessee. A group of teens, about 100 of them, decided to go on a rampage in a shopping plaza parking lot and a grocery store. They were running wild and decided to randomly attack innocent people, including grocery store clerks and customers with groceries. Three people were beaten with fists, kicked, and severely injured. They also took video of themselves perpetrating the event!

I can understand a single person randomly harming another; I can even understand a couple of thugs conspiring together to hurt someone. But how do you get a large group of teens to suddenly participate in a spontaneous riot and randomly harm innocent people? This can only be explained by concluding that they have no human decency or love (respect) for their fellow human beings. This is an escalation of the "knockout" game, where one or two persons would randomly strike someone in the head.

These are only small events now, but they are the beginning of many that will follow, according to Yeshua. These are not the kinds of acts where "kids will be kids." These are life-threatening acts. I fear that as word spreads and other teens try to emulate the event, someone will draw their concealed carry weapon and defend him-or-herself, severely wounding or killing some teens. Can you imagine the disaster that will result from that? I'm sure they will arrest the person defending themselves because the teens were "unarmed."

The world is going crazy. The love and sanity of many have grown cold!

Declaration of War

It is time for the United States of America to declare war on the Islamic State and anyone cooperating with it. Both houses of Congress should convene and draft the Articles of War. The President should fulfill his oath of office, sign that bill, and direct the United States military to muster all of its might to overwhelmingly defeat the enemy wherever they are. Every member of the Islamic State should be treated as Prisoners of War and they should be executed if found guilty by a military tribunal for crimes against humanity. The FBI and Justice Department should be directed to arrest and detain any collaborator of the Islamic State found in the United States.

We are in a state of war against the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL). Let me correct that. The Islamic State is at war with us. It is time for this nation to act accordingly, and declaring war on them is the most sane and reasonable thing to be done.

I would like to suggest that every citizen contact their Congressman or Senator to demand this action. Whether Congress or the President does this is unlikely, I know, but, we the citizens of this country should do our duty as citizens and call for the common defense of this nation. This should not just be at the discretion of the President. It should be the will of the entire nation, and this government should act as the people ask their government to do.

Islamic Jihadist Terrorists

The world just cannot find a way to defeat Islamic Jihadist terrorists.  Their warped sense of what is equal and fair has distorted their judgment to the point where they are at a loss to know what to do when facing evil.  I say “warped” because their judgment is void of any “righteousness.”

That word almost makes a liberal progressive pee their pants.  When you make a judgment using equal weights and measures (equal rights, equal justice under the law) without righteousness, then your balance and scales have no fulcrum to be hung on.  The balance of your scales is completely skewed and lacks any modicum of justice.  The results are not satisfying and the verdict does not hold.

Everyone understands equal and fair but few understand righteousness is simply “doing the right thing.”  Sometimes the best judgment is doing the right thing, even though it is not equal.

Since WWII, no conflict in the world has really been won with a victory.  There is a simple reason for it.  The wars in Korea, Viet Nam, the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the conflicts happening today all lack righteousness and justice in their conclusions.  No one secures a victory and nothing is resolved or reconciled.

So how do we bring righteousness to bear along with justice for these problems that the world is facing?  How did we ever win WWII?  What is necessary to win and conclude the various conflicts we now face?  In particular, how do we resolve this world-wide conflict with Islamic extremists?  We must bring righteousness to bear in the decision and do the right thing.  So what is the right thing?

In the early days of the children of Israel becoming a nation, God knew that they would face a variety of enemies.  But there was one particular enemy that had to be dealt with in a special way. It required righteousness instead of the fair thing. That enemy was Amalek.  Amalek was a nomadic group of thugs and bandits descended from Esau—the twin brother of Jacob.  Esau never became a single nation.  Instead, the various elements of Esau drifted apart and manifested themselves regionally.  The Palestinians are the very descendants of Esau, just like the Jews are descendants of Jacob.  Amalek is mixed in with the Palestinian people (those that hate and only want death).  Amalek does not negotiate; Amalek just kills if you let him.

Here is what God said about Amalek, the bloodthirsty killers who raid other camps and will not live in peace – “kill ’em.”  This is the righteous judgment. God gave a permanent commandment in the Torah to kill the sons of Amalek in every generation.  Otherwise, they will just keep coming and doing more harm.  There is no negotiating with them.

Until Israel obeys the Lord on this matter, the problem remains and will get worse.  To defeat the “holy war” that the Muslim extremists promote you must prove which God is the One True God.  You must prove that the God of Israel is the One and Only God, not Allah.  To do that, you must ask God to help you defeat your enemies.

I know the liberal, unbelieving world doesn’t want a religious war. That is why they shy away from the “righteous” things.  But that is what it takes to defeat the belief system of the Islamic extremists.  Treat them like they are Amalek (they are!) and obey the Lord.

Victory has been promised by the Lord in this matter.  But will Israel trust the Lord?
